"Awesome", "spectacular", "oh my", "holy cow"!!
The new Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory
It is indeed one of a kind... or at least, one of only THREE in the world! Come take a look for yourself: http://www.penobscotnarrowsbridgefest.com/ (Perhaps the BEST view of the bridge & Fort Knox is from the public waterfront off Main St. in downtown Bucksport).

Located on US Route 1 in Prospect (approx. 2/3rds of the way up the coast of Maine, at the top of Penobscot Bay & the mouth of the Penobscot River). Scenic Fort Knox State Park, Verona Island, and beautiful Bucksport are here too!
From the south: Take the coastal route to Bar Harbor so you don't miss it. Take Exit 113 from I-95 to Route 3, in Augusta. Head for Belfast, then pick up US Route 1 east & north bound.
From the north: from I-95 in Bangor take I-395 across the river to Brewer, then Route 15 south to Bucksport. Only a 20 to 30 minute ride from Brewer!
From the east: take US Route 1 west from Bar Harbor & Ellsworth. Only about 20 minutes from Ellsworth. Again, drive DOWN Main Street Bucksport to see the best view of both bridge and fort.
The Observatory at the top of the bridge is open from May to October, 9 AM to 5 PM. It only costs $5, and access is via the Fort Knox State Park entrance in Prospect.
